According to TMZ, the three arrested were Treison Lache Booker, Cortez Daymon Johnson, and Elijah Eugene Russell. The alleged burglars are now facing numerous charges, including attempted burglary of an unoccupied dwelling.
Law enforcement officials told the media outlet that the men had shattered several windows at Pippen’s residence. However, when they were unable to get inside, they fled the scene.
The three men ended up crashing their getaway car and tried to run. However, they were eventually caught and taken into custody.
Video surveillance showed one of the men trying to get through the door that looked to be Pippen’s back patio entrance while another man stood nearby. When they were unable to get into the residence, the men were seen attempting to try another entry point before walking away.
Meanwhile, a separate video showed the on-foot chase between the men and law enforcement.
Officials Say Pippe Was Watching the Attempted Break-In on Her Surveillance While Police Were Dispatched
Officials further shared with Local 10 that Pippen was watching the attempted break-in on her surveillance videos as law enforcement was being called to the scene.
Pinecrest Police Chief Jason Cohen, who was on the scene of the burglary, said he saw the three men jump into the car before the crash.
“I spot [Russell] walking. He’s trying to walk away, out of the area. It’s just me and him. I get out of my car, I order him to the ground,” Cohen recalled. “I start running after him. He crosses Kendall Drive, into a house’s yard. He jumps the fence.”
Cohen then said, “I open the gate to the fence. I walk in. He then jumps into the back, which is the canal back there too, the Snapper Creek Canal. He jumps into the canal. When I get to the canal bank, he’s hanging on.”
The police chief further pointed out that it was his first foot pursuit in more than a decade. “If he didn’t jump into the canal, he probably had me,” he noted.
Cohen added that it was believed that Pippen was likely targeted by the burglars.
