Portwood was part of the reality TV show Teen Mom in 2009. Wayt, Amber’s new boyfriend on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, hasn’t been seen since June 9th, according to North Carolina’s Bryson City Police Department.
In a Facebook post, BCPD shared details of the case. “Missing person GARY R. WAYT. 39 yrs old,” the department wrote. “6’01” 205 pounds bald with brown eyes, last seen 06/09/2024 on Arlington Ave. area of Bryson City NC.”
“Drive a grey SUV 2009 Nissan Rogue with Indiana state registration plate WLH 616 . Any information please call 828488-2196. Ask for Chief Robinson or Assnt. Chief Dover.”
Amber reportedly told police Gary was last seen at their hotel. He isn’t a resident of North Carolina, he was visiting from Indianapolis.
‘Teen Mom’ Star Amber Portwood’s Fiancé Gary Wayt Reported Missing
On June 6, Wayt first appeared on Teen Mom with Portwood via a Zoom call, introducing himself to the rest of the cast.
“Hello everybody … My name is actually Gary, believe it or not,” he quipped, referencing that he shares the same name as Portwood’s ex, Gary Shirley, who was also part of the show with Portwood. The two share their 14-year-old daughter, Leah.
“Maybe this is the Gary for you,” Jade Cline of Teen Mom joked at the time.
“It seems like it,” Portwood said.
Gary Wayt and Amber Portwood recently got engaged — within the past few weeks, that is. However, many fans of the show are shifting the blame on Portwood or questioning the validity of the case.
“Did Amber file the report or his real family & friends?” one person wrote on X. “This would be helpful to know if he’s really missing or just hiding out from Amber. I think Amber would do something like this for a storyline.”
“Damn I didn’t know I could file a missing persons alert if someone blocked me or ghosted me after a bad fight,” another said.
A third person expressed genuine concern for Wayt’s wellbeing.
“At this point, I hope he’s safe,” they wrote. “Isn’t he his parents’ caregiver? Are they okay??”
