Taylor Swift shared her support for Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s cover of “All Too Well” on their SNL Monologue.
Ryan took the stage as host of SNL on Saturday. “I’m here because of my new movie, The Fall Guy, with Emily Blunt!” he announced. “So, don’t worry — I’m not gonna make any jokes about Ken. Because it’s not funny.”
He then referenced his “breakup” with his part as Ken in the Barbie movie.
“When you play a character that hard, that long, letting go just feels like a breakup,” he continued. “And for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that could help: the music of the great Taylor Swift.”
As he sat down at a piano to sing, he slipped on sunglasses that matched Taylor’s signature look, then belted out his own version of the song.
“I shredded Venice Beach, it’s true,” he started singing, changing up the lyrics. “My clothes were tight. But something about that spandex felt so right.”
“I left my rollerblades in that big pink house. But I still got that fur coat, and I’ll wear it right now.”
He then put on the coat and got up from the piano to perform.
“If I said that I was doing fine, you know I’d be lying. ‘Cause I was just Ken, and now I’m just Ryan.”
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s SNL Monologue
Emily Blunt, Ryan’s co-star in their new film The Fall Guy, interrupted his performance to remind him why they were really there: to promote their movie.
“What are you doing?” she asked, jokingly frustrated.
“I’m promoting our movie,” he replied matter-of-factly.
“No you’re not,” she said. “No, you’re not. We had a whole full guy monologue planned with a bunch of stunts. It was gonna be epic. I was gonna hit you with things, and instead, you’re singing about Ken. Again.”
Ryan then responded saying it’s not “totally unrelated,” stating he listened to “All Too Well” while filming the movie and thinking about the “breakup.”
“I mean, in a way, I’m doing exactly what we talked about,” he joked.
Emily continued to berate him, telling him he needed to finally move on.
Ryan agreed, just before saying, “I just can’t. ‘Cause…”
He continued with the song’s chorus, changing up the lyrics yet again.
“Here we are again on that technicolor beach. I didn’t win the Oscar it was just out of reach. I was there, bleach-blonde hair, now it’s time to wish fit Ken farewell.”
