Sarah Silverman and Jon Hamm are not hooking up, despite a new report claiming the two are “friends with benefits.” Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the story. It’s simply false.
An article in the latest issue of the National Enquirer, which was later posted on RadarOnline, claims the actor has secretly “been bedding” the comic. The proof? The outlet notes that the pair attended two Hollywood events earlier this month, the premiere of Ralph Breaks the Internet and Silverman’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
An alleged insider tells the magazine, “They’ve known each other a long time and always been close. But Jon was in a longtime relationship until a couple of years ago.” According to the supposed source, “The door then opened for Jon and Sarah” after Hamm’s 18-year romance with Jennifer Westfeldt ended in 2015. The outlet’s so-called “spy” adds, “They’re comfortable with one another — so why not?”
The tabloid’s premise is based on the word of an anonymous and seemingly nonexistent “source,” but Gossip Cop checked in with a spokesperson for Silverman, who tells us it’s “absolutely false.” We also ran the story by Hamm’s rep, who tells on the record that it’s “not the case.” Despite what an untraceable “insider” says, reps qualified to speak on behalf of both stars confirm the story is untrue. The actor and comedian have been friends for years, but they’re relationship has never been romantic.
It’s worth noting, the Enquirer has already proven to have little insight into Silverman’s love life. Gossip Cop corrected the tabloid in 2016 for wrongly reporting that she was engaged to then-boyfriend Michael Sheen. The pair split last year and never had plans to get married. We later busted the tabloid’s sister publication, Star, for making up a story about Silverman teaming up with Sheen’s ex-wife Kate Beckinsale for a comedy series. The two never collaborated on a TV show together.
The gossip media isn’t much better when it comes to Hamm’s love life. Gossip Cop previously called out the Enquirer‘s sister outlet, OK!, for falsely claiming that the actor was dating Beirut co-star Rosamund Pike. Various tabloids have also wrongly linked the actor to “Mad Men” co-star Elisabeth Moss, Baby Driver co-star Eiza Gonzalez and Bad Times at the El Royale co-star Dakota Johnson, just to name a few. It seems the Enquirer decided to take a break from throwing Hamm into fake romances with his co-stars, and instead targeted a longtime friend.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
