There’s no romance developing between Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth, despite a made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the story. It’s total fiction.
“Colin & Renee’s Secret Dates!” reads a headline in the latest issue of Woman’s Day. The accompanying article, however, dials back that scenario a bit. The magazine says Firth has been leaning on Zellweger in the wake of his divorce from his wife of 22 years, Livia Giuggioli.
“Renee has been Colin’s rock over the last few months amid his marriage breakdown,” a supposed source tells the magazine. “She’s been jetting back and forth to London to comfort him and even staying at his home on many visits. There’s always been a strong connection and chemistry between the pair, but of course they’ve both been in relationships.”
Zellweger herself split from musician Doyle Bramhall II earlier this year. According to the alleged insider, she thinks her breakup “could have even been a sign that the stars are finally aligning for her and Colin after all these years – she’s hoping he’ll admit his feelings for her.”
The outlet’s phony report was created because Zellweger and Firth are newly single and played love interests in the Bridget Jones movies. The actor never leaned on his former co-star during his marriage problems, nor is she flying to his home in London to be his “rock.” The tabloid’s report has more in common with fan fiction than journalism. Zellweger and Firth aren’t suddenly in a real-life romance because they’ve both had relationships end. A source close to the situation assures Gossip Cop that the premise is untrue.
Additionally, there’s nothing to indicate that Zellweger and Firth are particularly close. The co-stars haven’t been spotted together since the release of Bridget Jones’s Baby in September 2016. That’s not to say the two haven’t been friendly over the years, but they appear to have more of a working relationship than anything else. The idea she’s been by his side amid his marital issues simply isn’t accurate.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to debunk a story about Zellweger’s love life following her split from Bramhall II. Just two months ago, Gossip Cop busted NW for falsely claiming Zellweger wanted to date Brad Pitt. It’s also worth noting, we previously debunked a story about Zellweger having a romance with Patrick Dempsey on the set of Bridget Jones’s Baby. It seems the gossip media is just arbitrarily linking her to another Bridget Jones co-star.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
