InTouch Weekly reported last month that the 42-year-old Prince of Wales is poised to become the “toughest ruler” the royal family “has ever seen.” These recent steps come amid the health struggles faced by William’s father, King Charles III, 76.
King Charles announced he had been diagnosed with cancer in February 2024. He received the diagnosis after a “routine hospital procedure” for benign prostate enlargement.
Since then, InTouch reports, William has “never been more influential” when it comes to the procedures of the royal family. In fact, it seems his father “is now bestowing more responsibility on [William] and by all accounts is acknowledging that his time to rule will be sooner, rather than later.”
According to Palace Insiders, Prince William Seems to Be Preparing to Ascend the Throne
From the controversy surrounding his uncle, Prince Andrew, to the reduced role of his brother, Prince Harry, William is said to be making “decisions that he feels will benefit the Crown in the long run.”
“It’s no secret that anyone who pushes back against him will be swiftly shown the door,” the palace insider told the publication. “He’s not willing to take any nonsense and the word is he’s already on his way to being the toughest ruler the family has ever seen.”
“He wants expenses to be monitored closely, and any fat trimmed straight away,” the source added. “He doesn’t want there to be any sense that special perks are being handed out to the royals. He’s all about the environment, so he’s pushing hard to be front and center in that respect and has put out this edict that the rest of the family needs to get on board with being as green as possible. Private flights and that sort of thing are being frowned on.”
“The days of wasteful spending and overconsumption are ending now that William is at the helm,” they noted.
Prince William Is Also Planning to Grant New Titles to His Royal Cousins
Prince William has also reportedly been organizing his younger relatives for the upcoming changing of the guard.
It was reported last month that the Prince of Wales is planning to reward his cousin, Lady Louise Windsor, with a new royal title.
The 21-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh was recently spotted in full military uniform. It was revealed she’s joined the St. Andrews University Officers Training Corps. This makes her the first female royal to serve since her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“William’s serious about her becoming a working royal,” a source told the publication of the prince’s plans for Lady Louise. “He’s even prepared to give her a new title.”
“The devotion she’s shown over the years will only improve after military service – she’s a very impressive young lady,” the source added.
