Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not engaged after the royal supposedly proposed to his girlfriend while vacationing in Africa, despite a completely false tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this inaccurate report.
The latest issue of OK! claims Prince Harry got down on one knee and asked his girlfriend of one year “to be his princess” while on an African safari earlier this month to celebrate her 36th birthday. “I heard she accepted immediately,” a supposed “insider” tells the magazine. “Surely Meghan has been preparing for this, but she must have been blown away by the romance of it all.”
The outlet’s questionable source adds, “They’ll keep the news to themselves and a few close-knit friends because they know once they announce it, things are going to get crazy.” Of course, it’s quite unlikely the outlet’s so-called “source” is among the “few close-knit friends” who would know about the alleged engagement, and then leak the news to a random American tabloid. It should also be noted, OK!‘s cover baselessly blares, “It’s Official!” despite the palace having made no such announcement.
Still, the magazine’s phony insider goes on to contend that Queen Elizabeth blessed the union, as did Prince William and Kate Middleton, who supposedly encouraged Prince Harry to propose in Africa because that’s where they got engaged. “They basically told Harry it was time to pull the trigger,” says the dubious source. “They didn’t want to see Harry risk losing Meghan.”
And finally, the seemingly untraceable insider says the royal and his girlfriend are considering tying the knot at Westminster Abbey, the same venue his brother and sister-in-law held their wedding. “The queen is very excited. She says it’ll be nothing short of spectacular,” adds the alleged “source.”
While it’s true the redheaded royal and Markle are still in Africa, and many are speculating that he might pop the question there, since the continent has always felt like a second home to Prince Harry, as of now he is not engaged to the “Suits” actress. We’ve been told for some time, however, that the two are headed in that direction, but it seems OK! jumped the gun with its declarative cover. In addition to it being very unlikely that the tabloid got this huge scoop, Gossip Cop still checked in with a Kensington Palace spokesperson, who exclusively assures us Prince Harry and Markle haven’t announced an engagement.
Of course, OK! constantly purports to know all the secrets of the royal family’s personal lives, so this latest fabrication isn’t too shocking. In fact, this isn’t the first time the tabloid has published a bogus cover story wrongly announcing Prince Harry and Markle are engaged. The repeatedly discredited outlet made the same claim back in January, but Gossip Cop exclusively corrected the inaccurate report.
In May, the publication also falsely asserted Prince Harry and Markle were having a “royal wedding.” And just last month, we debunked the magazine’s phony cover story alleging Prince Harry was leaving the royal family because they didn’t approve of his girlfriend, a claim that completely contradicts this latest report and the previous ones. It’s quite clear that the tabloid has no insider knowledge about the royals.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
