Is Pete Davison the “ultimate groomzilla” as he and Ariana Grande plan their wedding? That’s what the tabloids are labeling him. But Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
Life & Style writes, “Will they make it down the aisle? Ariana Grande is definitely shaking her head from side to side after leaving her fiance, Pete Davidson, in charge of wedding planning.” A so-called “insider” claims the “SNL” star is “talking about flying their family and friends out to Hawaii, having Drake perform, and ordering designer tracksuits for his groomsmen.” That leads the gossip magazine to editorialize, “Yikes! We know Pete’s style is, uh, quirky, but designer tracksuits for a wedding? Gross.”
Making matters “worse,” the outlet’s untraceable tipster contends, “Ariana is picking up the tab… [She’s] given Pete a taste of the good life, and it’s turned him into the ultimate groomzilla!” Suspiciously, a similar article also appears in this week’s In Touch, but the wording of the quotes is slightly different. For example, in this version, the line is, “Pete’s gotten a taste of the good life from Ariana, and unfortunately it’s gone to his head.”
And whereas Life & Style asserts Davidson is “talking about flying their family and friends out to Hawaii, having Drake perform, and ordering designer tracksuits for his groomsmen,” the In Touch quote states, “He’s saying he doesn’t want any expense spared and plans to fly guests to a tropical wedding like Hawaii and have Drake perform.” The latter article also features its purported “source” claiming, “He wants to control the location, music and food. He’s turned into a total groomzilla.”
Are readers supposed to believe an “insider” and a “source” separately gave the sister publications nearly identical information? In reality, the largely interchangeable lines suggest that both pieces were jointly manufactured by the outlets, which share a staff. And it’s flat-out untrue that the singer has left the comedian “in charge” of orchestrating their nuptials.
Only a week ago, Grande opened up about wedding planning in a “GMA” interview, telling Michael Strahan, “We’ve been planning, my friends and I, my mom and everybody have been like brainstorming and sharing ideas and stuff. It’s really fun. I work so much — I’ve never spent this much time or energy planning something personal that like feeds my soul so much and my heart… I’m so excited.” She said nothing about Davidson being at the helm.
Additionally, Davidson himself hasn’t said anything about having certain preferences for the big day. Gossip Cop would be remiss if we didn’t also point out that Life & Style was off-base last month when it insisted Grande has “babies on the brain,” even though she already made clear having children is years away for her. The tabloid keeps pretending to have insight on her relationship, but the pop star herself keeps proving the magazine wrong.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
