It's no secret that the Kardashian women put a lot of work into their physical appearances. That's their bread and butter, after all. Recently, both Kim and Kourtney have taken to their respective apps to reveal how they keep up their famous figures. While Kim focused more on the working out portion to keep trim, including details on exactly how she got that insane 24-inch waist, Kourtney divulged her dieting secrets, revealing that she's been trying out a new, strict diet that involves fasting 14-16 hours out of the day.
Kim's workouts concentrate on keeping her core strong and lean. "It's so important to work out your core!" Kim wrote in a blog on her app. "My trainer Melissa and I have been doing really intense ab workouts---and even though they're SO hard, I love the end result." Those ab workouts are clearly working since Kim just revealed in a video from her app that she now has a 24-inch waist, which contrasts nicely with her 39-inch hips. Kourtney, who was also featured in the video, was amazed at her younger sister's figure. "I can't take your hips seriously right now," she said, "...Your waist is so small and then your hips are so big."
Kim's trainer, Melissa Alcantara, walked through Kim's killer workout step by step. First, Kim performs leg lifts. She sits on a mat, with her hands under her butt, and lifts her slightly bent legs 90 degrees into the air. Melissa says Kim usually does four sets of 20 reps each. Next up is planks. No, not planking, the stupid craze that took the internet by storm way back in 2008. Planks are basically when you get into push up position with your hands directly beneath your shoulders. Melissa has Kim hold that position for one minute straight, with a 30 rest break between sets. Kim doesn't stop until she has held a plank position for a cumulative time of four minutes. Up next comes the ab roller. Kim places her knees on either side of her ab roller, then slowly rolls it forward until her body is stretched out into a straight line. Kim usually does four sets of ten for this particular exercise.
To round off her ab work, Melissa has Kim perform kneeling rope crunches. "Using the rope on a cable fly machine, choose a starting weight that will challenge you (about 30 pounds, but adjust as needed)," Melissa wrote in the app. Then she has Kim get herself into a kneeling position, grab the rope, then "place [her] thumbs on [her] temples." From that position, Kim lowers her head towards the floor, also lowering her bum while she's at it, but careful not to let it actually touch the floor, before returning to her beginning position. Kim executes four sets of 30 reps before calling it quits.
While Kim walked us through her workout, Kourtney walked us through her diet. Now, both Kardashian sisters have a history of fairly extreme diets, but Kourtney's own sisters have said in the past that her's is the most "cray," as Khloe once described it. Currently, she is taking part in the ketosis diet. "Keto diets are low in carbohydrates and high in protein and healthy fats," Kourtney wrote for her blog. "Once I knew the ground rules, I was very strict and really stuck to it. I ate minimal carbs and no grains, beans or legumes. Instead, I focused my meals on fresh vegetables and lean proteins." That doesn't sound all that appetizing to us, but hey, this is why people pay Kourtney the big bucks.
As part of the diet, Kourtney also partakes in "intermittent fasting," which means that there are 14-16 hours a day where she avoids eating altogether. "For me, this meant not eating for 14 to 16 hours after dinner. I wouldn't eat past 7 p.m. at night and then I would wait to eat breakfast the next day until after my morning workout, which would be around 10:30 a.m.--11 a.m." One day a week, Kourtney fasts for the whole day, only consuming bone broth, green tea, and water. No wonder her own sisters, who are plenty image-conscious as it is, call Kourtney's diet crazy. In fact, in one episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kourtney revealed that she only weighed 98 pounds. Khloe was quick to comment that Kourtney outweighed her oldest son, Mason, by only 36 pounds. Now that's crazy.
Keeping up with the Kardashians means keeping up with whatever crazy diet or fad workout they're doing now. A family with figures that famous have got a lot of work cut out for them if they plan on keeping their bodies the same, especially with so many of them popping out kids. We just hope, for their sake, that they take a moment to sit still and eat a Snickers bar. All of that healthy living can't be good for you.
