As a result of the rise and reign of black women (and women of color) returning to their natural hair state (rather than chemically altering our hair textures), there has also been a rise in hair care products created and marketed towards said 'ethnic group'.

However, many of these products that are available in niche hair care stores are small sister brands that are not known or sold at major retailers. That is, until large franchises like Walmart and Target noticed the high demand for these products and began selling these items.

Although It seems that with every advance black people make in the beauty industry (to change the status quo in the representation of 'universal' products that have been marketed to ethnic groups in major retail stores), there is almost always a negative, counterreaction.

A Walmart located in Lancaster, California has made it a point to lock natural black hair care products behind glasses cases, separate from all other hair products in their store.

An outraged black woman recorded the experience, expressing her frustration in the overt racial-profiling that was taking place at a local Wal-Mart.

"Everything pertaining to black hair care products is locked up. It makes absolutely no sense. These are African-American hair care products and all of this s* is locked up."

Similarly, Twitter user @Kadia2_ also expressed her anger towards Wal-Mart:

Some aren't quite sure what the purpose of locking up certain products is but, for the most part, people seem to also be up in arms and in agreeance that this is an overall negative and completely uncalled for act on Walmart's behalf.
