This 2012 movie was so poplular they are making a sequel, coming out next year! To hold you off until 2015, here are some strange facts you probably didn't know about the cast and script.
The “Cups (When I’m Gone)” song was not in the original script of the movie. Originally, Anna Kendrick, who starred as Beca, was supposed to sing something silly, like “I’m A Little Teapot” as her audition song. But when Anna discovered the song through Reddit, she wanted to do that song instead.
Steamy Unscripted Scenes
There was originally a shower scene between Adam DeVine, who played Bumber, and Rebel Wilson, who played Fat Amy, that was later cut. Adam and Rebel improvised a lot of their scenes. In an interview Adam said “Some were made, some got cut – a lot of the really steamy stuff.”
Adam DeVine filmed alongside his girlfriend, Kelly Jakle, who played Jessica. Kelly is a professional a cappella singer. Another romance bloomed after filming wrapped between Sylar Astin (Jesse) and Anna Camp (Aubrey).
The song, “No Diggity” wasn’t in the original script. When Anna Kendrick was singing it alone at the riff-off scene, she was actually singing live on set. She chose to do this whenever she sang alone because she thought something was lost in the recording studio.
The cast had a month long a cappella boot camp to learn how to sing and dance before filming even began. Each rehearsal lasted about ten hours. Also, each actor had to sing a song well as part of the audition for his or her roles.
Easter Dean, who played Cynthia, is a well-known songwriter. She has written many hits like “Rude Boy”, “Firework”, “Super Bass”, and “S&M” which she sang in the movie. “Pitch Perfect” was her first acting role.
Gail, the Commentator
The role of Gail, one of the commentators at the competition, was originally intended for Kristen Wiig. But when Wiig realized she was too busy for the film, Elizabeth Banks was called in. Amy Poehler was also considered for the part.
At the beginning of the movie, Beca (Anna Kendrick) attends a college fair. When she is looking at some of the booths, there are a group of students playing Quidditch in the background. There is also a Quidditch Club booth.
Vader vs. Vater
Beca explains to Jesse that “Vader” means father in German. “Vader” actually means father in Dutch. “Vater” means father in German and is pronounced with a short “o” sound like “rock.”
Rebel Almost Didn't Act
Rebel Wilson didn’t originally want to be an actress. It was only after she got malaria and suffered from fever hallucinations did she envision herself as a successful actress. We are all so happy her vision came true.
A Brat Pack Revival
Skylar Astin, Jesse, got his big break as Georg in the Broadway Musical “Spring Awakening.” Astin was cast for the role of Jesse because he had a John Cusack vibe. One of the producers described him as “awkward but not a geek.”
