Are Mark Wahlberg and James Corden secret drinking buddies? That’s the story in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can set the record straight.
A headline in the latest issue of Star reads, “James & Mark: Bonding Over Booze.” The accompanying article says the actor and the talk show host recently struck up a friendship thanks to their mutual appreciation for fine wine. A supposed source tells the magazine, “Mark has never had an easy time making friends inside Hollywood or out, but he’s known from the beginning that James is a lot more like him than it would appear on the outside.”
Actually, Wahlberg has always had a large entourage of Hollywood and childhood friends, so much so that it inspired a TV series. HBO’s “Entourage,” which the actor produced, was loosely based on his life. Still, the outlet’s misguided “insider” continues, ” Lately they’ve been getting together to hang out in Mark’s wine cellar and enjoy expensive bottles from this collection – their perfect idea of a boys’ night.”
The tabloid’s story is coming from an anonymous tipster, but Gossip Cop reached out to Wahlberg’s spokesperson, who tells us on the record it’s simply “not true.” Despite what the magazine’s unidentified “source” claims, the actor’s rep assures us he and Corden haven’t been tipping back drinks in his wine cellar. Although the article is fabricated, Wahlberg’s rep jokes, “But James is welcome anytime.”
It’s possible the outlet concocted this story because Wahlberg and Corden recently teamed up for a bit on “The Late Late Show,” during which the talk show host joined the actor for one of his daily 4 a.m. workouts. The two showed good chemistry during the sketch, so the idea of them drinking together might make for a good follow-up. Unfortunately, the situation is just fan fiction created by Star.
The unreliable publication has already proven to have little insight into the actor’s personal life. More than a year ago, Gossip Cop called out the tabloid for wrongly reporting that Wahlberg and his wife Rhea Durham were having a fifth child. The spouses haven’t welcomed another baby in the time since we debunked the story.
Meanwhile, the tabloids enjoy inventing unlikely celebrity friendships, whether they’re real or not. Last year, Gossip Cop busted Star‘s sister publication, OK!, for falsely claiming Angelina Jolie and Frances McDormand were secret best friends who were teaming up for a movie together. This latest article involving Wahlberg and Corden bonding over booze is similarly untrue.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
