Madonna is not “livid” that Lady Gaga‘s upcoming movie A Star Is Born is getting Oscar buzz, despite a made-up report. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus claim. We’ve learned it’s false.
The upcoming remake of A Star Is Born starring Gaga and Bradley Cooper received great reviews when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, with many critics saying the movie is sure to be a major awards season contender. According to RadarOnline, Madonna isn’t happy about all the praise Gaga is getting “because she’s the one who always wanted to be a movie star.”
An alleged source tells the blog that if Gaga wins the Academy Award, “Madonna will cancel her Oscar party” and “go straight to bed with tears.” Gossip Cop, however, can confirm that this tale of jealousy and resentment is fabricated. A source close to Madonna tells us on the condition of anonymity that the site’s article is simply “false.”
Although it’s no secret that Madonna and Gaga have feuded in the past, the outlet’s new spin on the situation is bogus. It seems the article was concocted to capitalize on all the attention surrounding A Star Is Born, but Madonna has no connection to any of it. Meanwhile, the iconic singer has had plenty of success on the big-screen, so the idea that “she always wanted to be a movie star” isn’t accurate.
Madonna’s 1996 movie Evita was nominated for five Oscars and won Best Original Song for “You Must Love Me.” Madonna also won the Best Actress Golden Globe for the film. Meanwhile, the singer has had prominent roles in a string of hit movies, including Dick Tracy and A League of Their Own. And Madonna’s 1991 concert film Truth or Dare held the record for highest-grossing documentary of all time for 11 years.
It’s also worth noting, Madonna invited Cooper to her Oscar party earlier this year. The actor, who also co-wrote, directed and produced A Star Is Born, had already finished shooting the movie with Gaga at this point. If the singer truly has so much animosity surrounding the project, it’s unlikely she’d be so friendly with the person responsible for making the film and casting Gaga in the lead role.
Additionally, this isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has had to debunk a report about a legendary singer being jealous of Gaga’s movie. Barbra Streisand, who starred in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born, was also said to be upset about the remake, but that claim was similarly baseless.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
