You hear stories all the time about firefighters rescuing cute animals, but this Colorado Springs fireman had no idea he'd be in for a surprise when called to pull some "puppies" out of a storm drain.
According to Inside Edition, the fireman rescued what appeared to be eight newborn black Labrador puppies, which led officials to believe it was the result of a dog dumping. However, when the litter was taken to the local humane society, they found out that the pups were actually baby red foxes!
Fire Captain Brian Vaughn said the firefighter was in shock when "They took them [to the shelter] and actually one of the vets in that location said, 'No, these aren’t Labradors, these are foxes."
He also told Inside Edition that because they live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, foxes are not uncommon in their area.
According to KiwiReport, the shelter agreed to take the pups to a rehab center in the event that they cannot reunite them with their mother. They hope that one day the foxes will be released back into the wild.
