Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are being dubbed “lovers at last” on the cover of one of this week’s new tabloids, but the claim is entirely false. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this bogus report.
The latest issue of Star is trying to spark a romance between the Titanic co-stars, who’ve been friends since the Oscar-winning film was released 20 years ago. The tabloid’s new cover story was seemingly concocted because Winslet attended the actor’s annual gala for his charity foundation in St. Tropez, France last month. The pals relaxed poolside at his villa prior to the event, prompting the unreliable magazine to allege they enjoyed an “intimate rendezvous.”
A supposed “source” tells the magazine, “Leo has had strong feelings for Kate since the day he met her. He thought she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, and still does. Over the years, he moved on and dated model after model, but he never connected with them on an intellectual level like he did with Kate.” Winslet shares a young son with her husband of nearly five years, Ned Rocknroll, but the outlet’s dubious insider goes on to say her marriage has been in trouble in recent months.
“There have been whispers of friction between Kate and Ned,” claims the questionable source. “And now you have Leo and Kate looking flirty in St. Tropez. People are sure to be reading between the lines.” The “insider” adds, “Ned can act like a kid sometimes – and compounding the problem is that he can’t stand Leo. And the fact that Kate can’t seem to let go of [DiCaprio] is driving a wedge between her and Ned.”
Of course, the tabloid’s report seems to have materialized simply because the actor and actress were recently photographed together in St. Tropez, so we were hesitant to believe the romance rumors. Our doubts were confirmed after checking in with a DiCaprio insider, who exclusively assures us there’s “no truth” to Star‘s latest cover story. Our trustworthy source says the cover story is nothing more than “a magazine wanting to sell a fantasy,” before adding, “They have been friends (and nothing more) for years.”
In fact, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to call out Star for creating a phony story surrounding the longtime friends. Earlier this year, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid after it falsely claimed Winslet’s husband forced her to skip the Oscars because he didn’t want her around DiCaprio. The outlet also wrongly reported in 2016 that Winslet’s marriage was in trouble, but the actress and her husband are clearly still together. The magazine’s new cover story is just another fabrication.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
