The late Welsh actor, who appeared in the 1972 serial “The Three Doctors,” inherited the title of ‘oldest living Doctor Who star’ following the death of Arnold Yarrow in 2024 at age 104.
Fans of Classic Who will remember him as Mr. Arthur Ollis, the game warden of the Minsbridge Wildlife Sanctuary.
News of Webb’s passing was first shared by actor (and noted Doctor Who fan) Toby Hadoke on social media.
” ‘I’ve been asked by the family to pass on the sad news that one of Doctor Who’s longest lived contributors – Laurie Webb, aka Mr Ollis in The Three Doctors – passed away peacefully on Sunday,” he wrote on April 1 alongside a candid video montage.
‘[Five] weeks short of his 102nd birthday. What a life, what a man. Delightful company, too,” Hadoke added.
In 2023, Webb made a cameo in the Doctor Who spinoff series, Tales of the Tardis, appearing in archive footage
According to IMDb, the veteran actor also appeared in several TV shows throughout the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, including Doomwatch, Paul Temple, Warship, and nine episodes of Hancock’s Half Hour.
Laurie Webb’s Son Pays Touching Tribute to Late ‘Doctor Who’ Actor
Webb’s son, Oliver, also paid tribute to his father in a heartfelt social media post.
“The observant among you will notice that Dad was approaching his 102nd birthday,” he wrote. “A mighty achievement by any standard. He passed away peacefully after a period of declining health due to old age.”
“Aside from being a great dad, loving husband to my late mum Pam and all-round good egg, Laurie was best known for his extensive acting career spanning both stage and the (small) screen,” Oliver added.
Oliver posted several photos from his father’s two most famed appearances in Doctor Who and Hancock’s Half Hour. He also shared photos from his later years.
According to The Mirror, Webb became the oldest living Doctor Who cast member in December 2024, following the death of Arnold Yarrow at age 104. The title is now thought to be held by 97-year-old Peter Cellier, who appeared in the 1982 story “Time-Flight.”
