One of this week’s tabloids claims John Mayer is upset about Katy Perry‘s recent engagement to Orlando Bloom. The story is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
Mayer had an on-and-off relationship with Perry for nearly three years, but according to Star, he’s still pining for the singer and considers her “the one that got away.” A supposed source tells the magazine, “When John’s depressed, he drinks. And he’s been drinking a lot lately.” The seemingly phony insider further contends that Mayer was chatting up a lot of women at a Grammys afterparty earlier this month, but “had no luck finding love.”
None of this is accurate. Gossip Cop checked in with a mutual pal of ours and Mayer, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, but assures us the magazine’s article is “totally fictitious.” In reality, it seems the tabloid is just pretending to have insight into how one of Perry’s famous exes feels about her engagement. We’re assured Mayer isn’t upset about his ex-girlfriend getting engaged, nor has he been hitting the bottle over the situation. The outlet’s article is flat-out untrue.
The gossip media has a habit of making up stories involving Mayer’s past romances. Back in December, Gossip Cop busted Star‘s sister outlet, OK!, for falsely claiming Mayer was rekindling a romance with Jennifer Aniston. That story was based on claims from an anonymous “source,” but Aniston’s own rep told us on the record that it was false. The two have remained friendly, and Mayer even attended the actress’s 50th birthday party earlier this month, but they’re not back together.
Additionally, the outlet also has very little insight into the actor’s current love life. Back in November, Gossip Cop called out the same magazine for wrongly reporting that Mayer was dating Larry David’s daughter, Cazzie David. As time has shown, the musician isn’t in a relationship with the comedian’s daughter. The two are simply friendly.
It’s also worth noting, Star‘s other sister publication, the National Enquirer, recently published a bogus story surrounding Mayer, Perry and Aniston all together. Shortly after the musician’s home was robbed last August, the outlet falsely claimed Aniston and Perry feared “dirt” would leak on them in the form of his stolen diaries, photos and emails. Only, there weren’t any private journals or laptops stolen from Mayer’s home. The burglars took music equipment and jewelry. This latest article arbitrarily linking Mayer to Perry and Bloom’s engagement is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
