Harris was last seen on March 4 near his apartment complex on Ennis Joslin Road near Texas A&M’s Corpus Christi Campus. According to his family, the college student went outside to pick up an Uber Eats order just before 3 a.m. and disappeared shortly after. His food was found the next day.
On Monday, June 24, nearly three months after Caleb Harris reportedly vanished, the Corpus Christi Police Department issued a statement confirming that human remains were found in a wastewater collection point, which is a wet well that is approximately 40 feet deep.
The police department confirmed the city’s medical examiner’s office was on the scene to take custody of the remains. That department will be responsible for making the official identification.
In a separate update, the police department revealed the remains were found at the Perry Place wastewater lift situation.
“City Water employees discovered the remains while conducting maintenance operations at about 3:30 pm Monday afternoon,” the department shared. “And immediately contacted the Police Department.”
The police department also stated the detectives are attempting to determine how the human remains found their way into the wastewater life station collection well. It was further noted that the remains did not bore any obvious signs of homicide.
However, due to the advanced state of the decomposition, the medical examiner’s office was unable to make an official identification. The remains have been transported to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) for DNA analysis.
“The UNTCHI is the foremost resource in the United States for the identification of missing persons and unidentified human remains.”
Caleb Harris’ Disappearance is active and ongoing.
Caleb Harris’ Father Called His Disappearance a ‘Mystery’
Days after Caleb Harris was reported missing, the college student’s parents, Randy and Becky Harris spoke to Fox News about the disappearance.
“Roommate got a new dog, and so, from 10 [p.m.] on, they were playing with the dog. We do have some video of them playing with the dog,” Randy explained. “He was preparing for the next afternoon. He had ordered from a convenience store his lunch for the next day, which is very normal.”
Randy described Caleb as a “creature of habit,” so ordering food so late to make lunch for the next day wasn’t out of the norm.
Caleb Harris’ parents pointed out they received “different Snapchats” from him until about 2:45 a.m. That was when he took the dog on a walk around his apartment complex.
After putting the dog back into his apartment, Harris went outside to wait for his food order. He never returned to the apartment.
“He kind of vanished. There’s no evidence of wrongdoing, but there’s no evidence at all. And so it’s a matter of looking at every inch, everything we could possibly think of,” Randy added. “It is a mystery.”
