Are Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga feuding over the popularity of their Las Vegas residencies? One of this week’s tabloids claims the two singers are in a bitter “rivalry.” Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.
Gaga launched her Enigma show at the Park MGM resort on December 28, while Stefani has been performing her Just a Girl residency at the Planet Hollywood resort since last June. According to Life & Style, the No Doubt singer isn’t happy about the competition.
The outlet notes that celebrities such as Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Jeremy Renner and Dave Grohl attended the opening night of Gaga’s show, while Stefani “struggled to attract the same A-list-caliber crowd the previous night.” This premise is very flawed. Naturally, there was more star power at the opening night of Gaga’s Vegas show than at one of Stefani’s random performances six months into her run. The comparison is absurd.
The tabloid teases this story on its cover with the headline, “Gaga vs. Gwen: Nasty Feud Explodes!” This is a major oversell. The article itself simply says Stefani is threatened by the fellow performer, but that idea isn’t accurate either. In reality, Stefani showed support for Gaga on Twitter the night her residency launched on December 28. She tweeted, “Sending @ladygaga good vibes tonight for her #Vegas opening night!” Stefani praised Gaga from the stage as well. The night after Gaga’s first performance, the No Doubt singer said during her own show, “I gotta shout out to Lady Gaga, who has opened on the Strip.”
Additionally, the magazine’s article is based on claims from an anonymous and seemingly nonexistent “insider.” Gossip Cop, however, reached out to a rep for both stars. Stefani and Gaga’s spokesperson, who’s authorized to speak on behalf of both singers, assures us there’s no feud between the two women. We’re further told they are supportive of one another’s Vegas residencies, and this tale of drama and jealousy is simply “untrue.”
It’s worth noting, when Life & Style isn’t busy making up stories about Stefani’s supposed professional rivalries, the magazine publishes lies about her love life. Last month, Gossip Cop called out the tabloid for falsely claiming Stefani was expecting twin girls with Blake Shelton. Just one month before that, the outlet alleged Stefani and Shelton’s relationship was “in trouble.” Neither of those conflicting storylines were true. This latest one involving a so-called “feud” with Gaga is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
