Is Gerard Butler really adopting an orphan from Africa? That’s the claim in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can set the record straight.
According to the National Enquirer, the actor is putting a secret adoption plan in place as he prepares to turn 50 later this year. “Gerard loves kids and he has a special place in his heart for children in need,” a supposed insider tells the outlet. “He has spent a lot of time with troubled orphans in East Africa and now he’s looking to do something more for a child in need.”
The anonymous insider goes on to say that the 300 star has developed “daddy skills” from bonding with the 13-year-old son of his on-and-off girlfriend, Morgan Brown. “He knows it takes time to process an adoption,” adds the questionable tipster. “But he’s willing to put the work in to make sure the child will have a safe, loving and stable place to live.”
The tabloid’s story is based on claims from an untraceable “source,” but Butler’s own spokesperson is going on the record to dismiss it as fiction. Despite what the magazine’s unidentified “insider” claims, a rep qualified to speak on the actor’s behalf confirms he’s not adopting a child from Africa.
The outlet seemingly concocted its story simply because Butler has been on humanitarian trips to Africa, during which he’s spent time with orphans. Despite the actor making philanthropic visits to the nation, it doesn’t mean he plans on taking a child home with him. There are other ways to help children in need.
It should be noted, Gossip Cop has debunked similar narratives involving other stars supposedly adopting children from orphanages. In January, we busted the Enquirer‘s sister publication, the Globe, for wrongly reporting that Jennifer Aniston was adopting a baby girl from a Mexican orphanage. That obviously didn’t happen.
Shortly before that, the same magazine falsely claiming Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were adopting a two-year-old orphan girl. That bogus article didn’t even bother to give a location of where the adoption was taking place. Regardless, the narrative clearly didn’t pan out.
Prior to that, the Enquirer‘s other sister outlet, OK!, made up a story about Angelina Jolie adopting a little boy from Syria. The actress hasn’t taken in another child. Butler is just the latest celebrity being arbitrarily assigned the role of adopting an orphan. It’s simply not the case.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
