According to a report from local outlet NBC 4, Buckingham arrived for an appointment on Wednesday when he was allegedly attacked by a woman. The assailant reportedly doused the 76-year-old musician with an unknown substance.
Law enforcement sources say the woman fled the scene, but police believe they know her identity and expect to make an arrest soon. The woman is reportedly known to Buckingham from previous incidents.
Meanwhile, the veteran musician, who departed from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, was apparently unharmed.
The Santa Monica Police Department and the LAPD are investigating the case.
It is unclear if a permanent restraining order granted to Buckingham in December 2024 against an alleged stalker is connected to the recent attack. According to The Blast, a Los Angeles judge issued the restraining order after Buckingham testified and presented evidence in court.
The woman, who goes by the name Michelle, has been accused of harassing Buckingham and his family since 2021.
In his petition, the musician alleged that Michelle had made death threats against him and his family. He expressed concern that the alleged stalker’s “conduct may escalate into something physically dangerous to me and my family.”

Buckingham and his wife, photographer Kristen Messner, have been married since 2000 and share three children.
Buckingham first rose to prominence in the early 1970s as one half of the duo Buckingham Nicks with Stevie Nicks. His career soared after they both joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975. Buckingham released a solo album in 1981 and later collaborated with bandmate Christine McVie on a duet album in 2017.
