According to local authorities, the accident happened on Saturday, June 15, around 6:00 a.m. near the Caltex petrol station. A Mitsubishi bus, operated by Forward Sacco, had hit Omondi’s motorcycle, which was coming from the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road.
“A motorcycle coming from the opposite side of the road (near consolidated Bank) collided head-on with the bus,” the police statement revealed. “As a result, the pillion passenger, Fredrick Odhiambo Omondi, died on the spot.”
The authorities also revealed that the bus driver sustained serious multiple injuries to both legs and fractures to both hands. “He was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment. The body of the deceased is at the mortuary of the said hospital awaiting post-mortem.”
TUKO also reports that Fred Omondi’s autopsy revealed his skull had cracked due to the impact. Ken Waudo, Laugh Industry Board Member and Churchill Show director, spoke out about the comedian’s sudden death.
“His head hit the bumper of the matatu,” Waudo said. “Actually, when you see it, the metal of the matatu is curved. And I think that impact was very strong. He had a cracked skull and the matatu had also pulled him, so he had a lot of fractures on the right side of his body, the legs and the hands and so many ribs were completely broken.”
Waudo also said that if Fred Omondi had survived his injuries, he would have been a “vegetable.”
“His spin had also cracked,” he added.
Friend of Fred Omondi Questions Cause of Death
Days after Fred Omondi died after a traffic accident, a friend of the comedian, 2mbili, questioned the cause of death.
“The stories we are getting are not adding up,” 2mbili explained. “Fred riding a bike? Which bike and from where? He was hit by a bus. Where was the bus coming from? Eventually, the truth will be revealed. He used to care for himself before caring for people. Late in the night, Fred? Have you ever seen him with a motorbike?”
Recalling when he first heard about Omondi’s accident, 2mbili said he attempted to call the comedian’s brother, Eric. However, his phone had been busy.
“I called DJ Osama,” 2mbili shared. “When I last spoke to Fred, they were together when he was performing at Captain Lounge. I did not want to let him know that I heard the news about Fred.”
“I asked him to go to Fred’s house and ask him what time we were leaving (for Meru) because he was off. He told me he is probably in a place where there is no network or his phone is off.”
