On Sunday night, many esteemed television stars were rightfully recognized for their powerful performances. But with all that activity happening at once, someone was bound to slip up, especially during the frenetic red carpet interviews. One such interview involved Christina Applegate, who handled the mix up with just the right amount of professionalism and shade.

The Daily Mail reports how Jenny McCarthy mistakenly asked the actress, "Tonight you’re nominated for your own show. What’s that like? First time, right?”

Watch as Applegate fields this mistake like a pro.

McCarthy had forgotten that Applegate was no stranger to the Emmys. She had received an Emmy win in 2003 and a nomination in 2004 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series as Rachel Green's sister on 'Friends'. She was also nominated for Emmys two more times for her role in 'Samantha Who?' in 2008 and 2009. Christina Applegate's facial expressions and select word choice conveyed far more than calling McCarthy out ever would have.

Another blunder came when McCarthy noted how, "I grew up watching you, of course, and I was like, oh my god, I want to be her when I'm older. Unfortunately I didn't get that lucky."

Many users on Twitter pointed out that McCarthy (46) is only a year younger than Applegate (47), and these people noted how it came across as a backhanded compliment. Whether it was through relevant memes or gifs, these devoted viewers had a lot of feelings about the matter.

While Christina Applegate didn't win the Emmy for her lead role in the Netflix comedy 'Dead To Me', her interview did go viral, prompting an outpouring of support and a reminder of how widespread her fanbase is. No updates form Jenny McCarthy, but hopefully she will be much more prepared for how accomplished her subjects are in her next red carpet interview.
