You might not know his name (or how the heck to pronounce it) but he's got a face that no one could forget, even though they really, really want to. He's Tekashi 6ix9ine and he's one of the newest, and definitely most colorful, rappers on the scene. He shot to internet fame with songs like "Gummo" and "Billy," did a collaboration with the queen of rap Nicki Minaj on the song "FEFE," and was just announced as one of the three openers Nicki has chosen for her NickiHndrxx tour with other rap superstar Future. The 22-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, has a dark, sometimes violent past, however, and with each step he takes towards the spotlight, the more we learn about the sordid way he's made a name for himself.
First things first, there's the matter of his involvement in a video involving a minor performing sexual acts on someone. The incident, which took place in 2015 when Tekashi was about 18 years old, involved a 13-year-old girl who was giving a second man oral while Tekashi stood behind her. According to those who have seen the video (which was posted to social media by several people, including Tekashi himself), Tekashi slapped the young teenager on the rear several times while she performed the act and made a thrusting motion with his hips, insinuating a sexual act. For this, he was charged with three counts of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, to which he pled guilty to.
After the court case, Tekashi continued to tout his innocence, claiming that he was only 17 at the time, ironically referring to himself as "just a baby," that he'd never touched the girl, and that he was simply present when the incident was filmed, despite the fact that his own official testimony and basic facts dispute his claims. So he's just a super guy.
Now that we've gone over Tekashi's disturbing sexual past, let's move on to his disturbing violent past. It's not terribly surprising that someone who refers to themselves as a "professional troll" might get into a scrape or two, but violence just seems to follow Tekashi around like a bad fart.
In one incident, Tekashi allegedly choked a 16-year-old boy for apparently taking a video of him in a Houston area mall. Video of the incident was uploaded to social media sites. That got Tekashi hit with misdemeanor assault charges and led to him being arrested in New York City in July of 2018.
This wasn't Tekashi's first brush with the law for getting too handsy with someone. While being arrested for driving with a suspended license, Tekashi allegedly grabbed the arresting officer's hand while his own were in handcuffs and he squeezed hard enough to cause "pain and swelling" according to a police spokesperson. Did we mention that this guy is only 22 years old?!
We're not saying that rappers are usually a squeaky clean bunch, but this guy is definitely something else. For a guy to be that young to already have a rap sheet that long and that...unsavory is troubling. What's even more troubling is the fact that this guy has a HUGE fanbase and now he's going to be getting even more attention thanks to the upcoming tour with Nicki Minaj. Of all the new and emerging artist for Nicki to choose from...she just had to get this guy who looks like he's got Skittles for teeth! And did we mention that he has the number 69 tatted on himself 100 times?! Because that just has to be mentioned.
What do you think? Should he be given a second (more like tenth) chance to prove he's better than his old court cases, or is he just rotten to the core? Let us know in the comments below!
