What happens when you send a spoiled, 25-year-old London rich kid to live with a single mother of two who's struggling to get by on about $3 a day? Well, that rich kid will blame the mother, of course!
In what was supposed to be a fun social experiment meant to teach the ultra-elite a little something about how the other half lives, Jodie Weston, DJ, and owner of a chain of beauty salons funded by her wealthy parents, didn't quite live up to expectations.
The show, Rich Kids Go Skint, wanted the "Rich Kids" to feel for their destitute hosts, but that's just not how Jodie Weston rolls.
Right away, Jodie didn't get along with her host, Becky.
"I feel like in my episode, in particular, I didn't sympathize too much," she told The Sun. "With Becky, it was a little bit like one bad decision after another after another after another. It just kind of felt like she wasn't utilizing her opportunities enough. She's a nice girl, I just feel like she keeps making bad decisions."
What were those bad decisions, you ask?
Well, turns out Jodie thinks Becky had a bit of a hoarding problem. In fact, she named that issue as the reason why she wasn't able to spend the night at Becky's flat as was planned.
"From the outside, I thought this doesn't even look even bad, but then I went inside and it was floor to ceiling hoarding, everywhere," Jodie said. "She was a hoarder so even though there was a spare room in the flat, there wasn't even space for me to stay over in the flat because she was hoarding so much stuff. She had a spare room that could easily have been another bedroom or a playroom for the kids."
Jodie suggested that Becky sell some of the stuff and "make at least £500."
Don't think that Jodie didn't do anything for Becky, though. At the end of their time together, Jodie gave Becky a "generous" gift in the form of a laser hair removal voucher. Becky, the ingrate, apparently never used it.
"I gave Becky a voucher. She said when she was on the show she would really like to get laser hair, but she never came to get it. That's another thing, I'm trying to help you but you aren't helping yourself. She's a nice girl I just think mine and her mentality were polar opposite."
Wow, imagine that. Not wanting to go to a salon whose owner had spent quite a lot of time criticizing her. Besides that, Becky had a 19-month-old daughter and a 5-year-old son. When would she have time to go get the procedure done?
It's clear that Jodie has no idea how real life is lived or that people sometimes let mess pile up around them while they deal with more important issues. When you're not a rich, spoiled little princess, you're generally able to understand that. Well, that's just our take. What do you think? Was Jodie right to critique Becky's life, or should she have kept her mouth shut? Let us know in the comments!
