Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas never said that critics of President Donald Trump are “traitors and racists,” despite an absurd report. Gossip Cop can debunk this nonsense. The famous spouses never made such comments.
A new headline on the website NY Evening News, which seems to publish fake news, reads, “Michael Douglas To Catherine Zeta-Jones: ‘I Agree With You My Wife, Everyone Who Hates Trump And Loves Obama They Are Traitors And Racists, I Love My President The Flag And Anthem.'” Where and when did the actor make this audacious statement? The untrustworthy blog doesn’t say. That’s because he never expressed anything remotely close to it.
Instead of explaining where the fake quote came from, the outlet points to a September 2016 interview with Douglas on “Good Morning Britain,” during which the actor revealed he knows Trump “personally” and and always found him to be a “charming guy.” However, he also made a point of noting, “I don’t agree with him politically,” and went on to say he was voting for Hillary Clinton. The actor also discussed former President Barack Obama, saying, “I think historically we’re going to look back and think of him as a strong president.” The website conveniently leaves out all of these section of the actor’s interview.
The blog’s insane headline ropes in Zeta-Jones by claiming that Douglas “agrees” with her about Trump’s detractors being “traitors and racists.” However, the actress never uttered such a statement either. In fact, she’s never publicly discussed the president in any capacity. Had Douglas or his wife actually said the outrageous quote being attributed to them, news publications around the world would have picked it up. Instead, NY Evening News is the only outlet reporting it. Regardless, a spokesperson for Douglas tells Gossip Cop the article is fabricated, adding, “Michael is lifelong Democrat and he does know Donald Trump but that’s as far as it goes. He is not close to him and hasn’t seen him in years.”
It should be noted, the blog has a habit of pretending that certain A-list stars have lauded Trump. Last week, Gossip Cop busted the site for falsely claiming that Nicole Kidman called Trump “the best president in U.S. history.” However, the only statement the actress ever made about the commander-in-chief is that the “country need to support whoever’s the president because that’s what the country’s based on.” It seems that any celebrity who doesn’t outright bash Trump is deemed a supporter and assigned a phony quote by the blog. Despite articles like these being completely ridiculous, they frequently get shared on social media and only add to the fake news epidemic.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
