Carrie Underwood is NOT “trapped in a bad marriage” with Mike Fisher, despite a tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can bust the report.
The new issue of Star blares, “Carrie Trapped In A Bad Marriage: Fights, Lies & Loneliness.” Inside the edition, a headline exclaims, “Carrie & Mike On Thin Ice.” The tabloid writes, “Carrie Underwood’s marriage to hockey star Mike Fisher has gone from fairytale to fractured. Has it reached a point of no return?”
It’s specifically alleged the couple’s “seven-year marriage is on very shaky ground,” and “the pop-country superstar is not sure if her troubled union can last!” A so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “Between their careers, Carrie and Mike are so busy that they’re barely together, and unfortunately, their problems run much deeper than that. I believe Carrie feels Mike doesn’t see their relationship as a priority, and that he’s not putting forth the effort to make her happy and feel secure. They’re in a very vulnerable place, and their friends are worried they’ve drifted so far apart that they might not be able to find their way back together again.”
The gossip magazine points out Underwood and Fisher haven’t been “seen together” in months, noting her touring commitments and his hockey schedule. The “insider” speculates the singer has worried about Fisher being unfaithful because “pro athletes are notorious for cheating,” but it’s also suggested that rumors about Underwood’s closeness with the also-married Brad Paisley have taken a “toll.” The outlet contends “long-simmering resentments have been boiling over into blowout fights,” and it’s even alleged that Underwood’s role in NBC’s “The Sound Of Music Live!” was damaging to the relationship.
So, if the marriage is in such dire straits, why haven’t Underwood and Fisher divorced yet? Well, the publication has a convenient explanation. The reason the “American Idol” winner is “trapped” and supposedly “afraid to leave” is said to be religion. “Carrie’s bound by her faith to fight for her marriage,” asserts the outlet’s purported tipster.
Of course, there’s a more obvious reason why Underwood and Fisher are still together: They’re happy with each other. Despite the dark picture painted by this cover story, Underwood routinely celebrates the relationship in interviews (including one published this week) and on social media. In fact, she tweeted on Thursday about Fisher being nominated for an award in honor of leadership and charity, gushing, “That’s my man! So proud of him for so many reasons…he truly has the sweetest [heart] for helping others!”
It’s also worth noting that Star and its sister publications don’t have a stellar track record when it comes to reporting on the couple. In 2011, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for wrongly claiming Underwood was pregnant. She didn’t have a baby until 2015. And that same year, we called out the National Enquirer for falsely alleging Underwood and Fisher were in a “raging marriage crisis.”
And while declaring on this cover that that Underwood and Fisher have “not [been] seen together for 10 months,” Star is willfully ignoring Instagram pictures that document their life together. Instead, the tabloid itself has crafted what is clearly a false narrative.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
