“When we broke up, there was a part of me that wasn’t ready to just give up on it,” he explained. “Probably a certain amount of that is having watched my parents. And I love Christine, I love my family, and I was not ready to just go, ‘Ok, enough of this.’”
The couple married in 2000, one year after meeting on the set of the never-broadcast TV pilot for Heat Vision and Jack. Since then, they have appeared in various films, including Zoolander, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Tropic Thunder, and TV shows Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development. They share two children, Ella and Quintin.
After 17 years of marriage, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor announced their separation. “With tremendous love and respect for each other and the 18 years we spent together as a couple, we have made the decision to separate,” their statement read. “Our priority will continue to be raising our children as devoted parents and the closest of friends. We kindly ask that the media respect our privacy at this time.”
However, amid living together during the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple reconciled. They have been together ever since.
Ben Stiller Spoke About the Separation During Recent Talk Show Appearance, New York Times Interview
Ben Stiller also reflected on the separation during his recent visit on The View.
“I think we both wanted it,” Stiller stated about his reconciliation with Taylor. “In a relationship — we’ve been married for 25 years — you have to work at it. COVID happened, and we all got into a house together with our family. I’m grateful. I’m so grateful we’re back together.”
During his recent The New York Times interview, Stiller further stated that his relationship with Taylor “wasn’t in a great place” when Zoolander 2 came out in 2016.
“When we separated, it was just having space to see what our relationship was,” Stiller continued. “What my life felt like when we weren’t in that relationship, how much I loved our family unit. In my mind, I never didn’t want us to be together. I don’t know where Christine was, you’d have to ask her, but COVID put us all together in the same house.”
