Barbra Streisand is obsessed with Eminem and hopes to work with him? That’s the storyline in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the claim and we can set the record straight.
“Streisand Swoons Over Eminem!” reads a headline in the latest issue of the Globe. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “She thinks he’s interesting and fascinating in an intense way, and also happens to think he’s devilishly handsome. She listens to his music and raps to his lyrics at home when she thinks no one is looking.”
The questionable insider continues, “She thinks he’s extremely talented and has just the kind of screen presence she looks for in a star. She would love to direct him in a film. Barbra has let Eminem know she’ll meet him any day, any time.” One would think she’d be more eager to collaborate on a song with the rapper since she hasn’t directed a movie since 1996’s The Mirror Has Two Faces. Regardless, none of this is true.
An individual in Streisand’s camp tells Gossip Cop that the tabloid’s story is “total BS.” Here’s what’s really happening: Earlier this month, Streisand reached out to Eminem on Instagram following his surprise performance at the Oscars. The Globe decided to concoct this crazy story out of their interaction.
The rapper had posted a video of Streisand announcing “Lose Yourself” as the winner for Best Original Song at the 2003 Oscars. Eminem didn’t show up to accept the award, but he performed the 8 Mile anthem at this year’s ceremony. “Thanks for having me @theacademy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here,” he wrote. Streisand shared the rapper’s post on her page and added, “I had voted for your song too! Was really looking forward to handing you the award. Next time!” She including a winking emoji.
It’s clear that Streisand admires Eminem. She also has an connection to the rapper thanks to the Oscars. However, the idea that Streisand is infatuated with Eminem and raps his lyrics “when she thinks no one is looking” is absurd. This also begs the question, who is this creepy “source” and why are they spying on Streisand in her home “when she thinks no one is looking”?
The Globe is the same tabloid that Gossip Cop busted in December 2018 for falsely claiming Streisand was dying from a compulsive eating disorder. That story wasn’t true, but suddenly she’s preparing to direct a movie starring Eminem? The magazine can’t keep its fictional stories straight.
It’s also worth noting, the Globe previously made Streisand the object of another star’s affection. Gossip Cop called out the magazine for wrongly reporting that Tom Cruise was “obsessed” with the singer and wanted her to join Scientology. Now we’re just waiting for next week’s headline: “Tom Cruise and Eminem Fighting Over Barbra Streisand!”
Dresdale, Andrea. “Barbra Streisand reaches out to Eminem about Oscars performance.” Good Morning America, 11 Feb. 2020.
Shuster, Andrew. “Barbra Streisand Dying From Compulsive Eating Disorder?” Gossip Cop, 6 Dec. 2018.
Shuster, Andrew. “Tom Cruise Recruiting Barbra Streisand For Scientology?” 6 Sep. 2018.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
