Is Angelina Jolie “absolutely heartbroken” about Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston “getting back together”? That was the premise of an article from exactly one year ago today. Gossip Cop noted the story was untrue 12 months ago, and while Pitt did recently stop by Aniston’s 50th birthday party, it’s still false that they’re “getting back together.”
On March 1, 2018, the National Enquirer alleged Pitt was having “secret hookups” with Aniston that, when Jolie found out about them, she was so “shattered” she needed a ton of therapy. To give the impression it had inside information, the supermarket tabloid claimed it had a source who shared how Jolie “heard from friends” that Pitt had been “meeting up” with his ex-wife under-the-radar. Once Jolie discovered “Brad’s betrayal,” the Oscar-winning actress was beyond “heartbroken,” maintained the publication.
The supposed tipster further asserted that Pitt being “back on” with Aniston, in particular, “touched a nerve” with Jolie. According to the magazine, it pushed Jolie to the “breaking point.” In fact, the purported insider insisted Jolie was “totally humiliated” by her estranged husband reconnecting with his ex-wife, calling the entire situation “her worst nightmare.”
Actually, the only “nightmare” was the tabloid’s tale. The reality is, that while Aniston and Pitt were occasionally in contact with each other, they hadn’t actually been in the same room together in years. Even Aniston’s pal Portia de Rossi told Us Weekly in an interview about rumors involving Ellen DeGeneres and herself that she saw once the cover of a magazine on a newsstand, and could confirm (prior to the “Friends” star’s 50th birthday) that Aniston hadn’t seen Pitt in a long time.
Basically, the whole premise of Jolie being pushed to the “breaking point” by Pitt and Aniston, and having to go to therapy as a result, was wrong. There were no “secret hookups,” and they did not get “back together.” By all accounts, Pitt attended Aniston’s birthday party to support her simply as a friend, but they’re not dating now nor plan to in the future.
Of course, in the 365 days since the magazine published its piece, no top-tier outlets ever claimed Aniston and Pitt were back together. And on the occasions when lesser tabloids and websites pushed the fantasy of the exes reuniting, Pitt and Aniston’s spokespeople repeatedly assured Gossip Cop that, while they’re both cordial and have been in touch over the years, they were not dating again. It also should be noted how, in the intervening months since that article, the Enquirer and its purported sources have continued to get it wrong with stories about Aniston, Jolie, and Pitt.
Just a week after that phony tale, Gossip Cop busted the outlet when it reported Aniston was begging Pitt to be her “baby daddy.” That was a lie, as was its story which contended Pitt and Aniston had a “romantic” dinner at George Clooney’s house in Italy. Among the tip-offs the article was a work of fiction was that Pitt was on the L.A. set of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood when the meal was supposed to have taken place.
Gossip Cop also corrected the publication when it ran a false report about Jolie being “furious” about Pitt’s “girlfriend” Neri Oxman. In the real world, however, the actor never dated the MIT professor. And just last week, the outlet’s story about Pitt relapsing on pot went up in smoke.
Once again, Gossip Cop looks back from time to time to see how certain articles hold up. In this instance, while he went to her milestone birthday last month, Pitt and Aniston did not get back together (nor are they going to), and Jolie was definitely not “heartbroken” over that inaccurate account from 2018. Unfortunately, even after being frequently debunked, we suspect that publication will continue to push this bogus narrative about Pitt and Aniston.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
