"That 70s Show" is a TV classic that millions still enjoy to this day. Here are a few cool facts about the show and its cast that you probably didn't know.
Chuck Norris as Red Foreman?
Kurtwood Smith was an amazing and stern father to Eric in "That 70's Show", but was not the original choice for that role. Chuck Norris was the initial choice for Red Foreman, but had to pass on the role since he was filming "Walker, Texas Ranger," so Kurtwood Smith was cast instead.
Foreign Exchange Student Program
FES(Z) stands for foreign exchange student. However, Wilmer Valderrama has stated that he fabricated the accent he used on the show to make it impossible to identify which country his character is from, a mystery that has been deliberately kept a secret.
The Show that Named Itself
The show was initially pitched with titles like "Teenage Wasteland" and later "The Kids Are Alright" or "Reeling in the Years". However, because both names were references to songs by The Who and Steely Dan, legal issues prevented their use. As a result, the show was eventually announced as "Feelin' Alright", but that name didn't catch on. After noticing that audience members in focus groups would say things such as "I like that '70s show" to describe it, they eventually decided to simply call the series "That '70s Show".
Not So Natural Blonde
Laura Prepon, a natural redhead, had to dye her hair blonde to star in the film "Karla" in 2006. As a result, her character Donna Pinciotti changed hair color for the show's final two seasons.
Fez, the Ladies Man
Fez was an awkward and often lonely character on the show, but Wilmer Valderrama had much better luck in his real personal life. He has dated numerous stars such as Mandy Moore, Lindsey Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, and is currently dating Demi Lovato. Not bad!
The show stayed true to 70s culture by naming their episodes after songs by popular rock bands of the time. The fifth season titles are all from Led Zeppelin songs, the sixth season titles are all from The Who songs, the seventh season are all The Rolling Stones songs, and then the eighth season's titles are all Queen songs.
A Young Starlet
Mila Kunis was only 14 years old when she auditioned for the show. When asked her age by the producers, she misled them by telling a technical truth: "Well, I'll be 18 on my birthday." She just neglected to say which year.
A True 70's Man
Tommy Chong, the actor who played Leo, was absent from the show from 2003-2004 while serving a jail sentence for selling "drug paraphernalia" (water pipes). He expressed surprise later that this wasn't written into the show's storyline since it fit his character so well. Interestingly enough, Tommy was cellmates with Jordan Belfort, and encouraged him to write his memoirs what later became the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street."
Who's the real FES?
Jackie constantly makes fun of Fez in the show for being foreign. In real life, however, the actor who plays Fez, Wilmer Valderrama, was born in the USA, while Mila Kunis was born in the USSR, in what is now Ukraine.
It Was Meant to Be
Mila Kunis admitted that Ashton Kutcher was her first kiss, both on-screen and off! Though the pair made out multiple times onscreen, they didn’t get together until years after the show ended. Now that they're more distanced from "That 70s Show" and their professional lives have grown, they started dating almost in secret, but are now engaged and also expecting a child!
Friends Til the End
Laura Prepon said she “wasn’t surprised” by the fact that Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis were dating. When asked if she’d go to their wedding, she responded: “If Mila wanted us there, which she would because we’re family. We support each other.” How very Donna and Jackie… minus all the snark.
